Course Summary

This qualification focuses on performance of a prescribed range of functions within the Picture Framing sector, usually within a broad range of related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints.

Entry Requirements

Completion of Year 10 or equivalent, SA in maths and english is recommended. You must be employed as an apprentice/trainee in the Picture Framing sector and must have signed a Registered Training Contract as an apprentice/trainee to be eligible to undertake training in this course.

LMF30802 Certificate III in Picture Framing will take a nominal 4 years full-time to complete.

Location

Training is performed at Workplace Training Pty Ltd’s facility in Wynnum. Students attend the training facility for 3 weeks every year over a period of 3 years.

Follow safe working policies and practices - This unit covers the essential activities required to satisfy safe work practices within the furnishing industry. It incorporates and expands upon Worksafe Australia Guidelines.

Communicate in the workplace - This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to communicate in a furnishing industry workplace. It covers the activities of gathering, conveying and receiving information together with completing routine written correspondence.

Carry out measurements and calculations - This unit covers the competency to accurately complete measurements and calculations of materials relevant to the work requirements.

Work effectively with others - This unit covers the competency required to work in a group environment requiring group commitment and cooperation and support of other group members.

Use picture framing sector hand and power tools - This unit covers work involving the use of hand and power tools in applications relating to the picture framing sector of the furnishing industry.

Cut mouldings to length - This unit covers the competency to cut frame mouldings to the required length with guillotines, saws or other equipment. -

Join mouldings - This unit addresses the knowledge and skills required to join mouldings to form frames. -

Mount artwork - This unit covers the competency to mount artwork to substrates prior to framing. It includes dry and wet mounting, pressure rolling, laminating and hinging of artwork. -

Cut mat boards - This unit addresses the knowledge and skills required to cut out simple mat boards by hand or machine for the mounting of artwork. -

Cut and handle glazing materials for framing - This unit addresses the knowledge and skills required to cut and handle glazing materials for picture and mirror frames. It includes sheet acrylic. -

Assemble artwork package (basic) - This unit covers the competency to identify, gather and assemble all picture frame components required to complete the basic framing of artwork. -

LMFPF2007A

Deframe artwork - This unit covers the competency to dismantle and remove the frame from artwork, including its documentation. Artwork includes any object that can be framed, including memorabilia.

Recognise and handle artwork for framing - This unit covers the competency to recognise and handle various types of artwork and frame design to determine appropriate conservation and framing techniques to ensure its artistic/historic significance is maintained/enhanced. It includes storage requirements. -

Prepare design requirements for framing - This unit covers the competency to apply the elements and principles of design to select the correct framing of artwork to maintain/enhance its historic, sentimental or monetary value. -
